Canterbury D1A Rugby Top 20: Week 12

D1A Rugby: Canterbury D1A Rugby Top 20: Week 12

LAFAYETTE, Colo. – The Nov. 12 conclusion of the Big Ten Universities and Rugby East Conferences left just four D1A conference matches and a small handful of nonconference games to be competed over the weekend. The winding down of the fall college rugby season as we head towards the winter holidays left just two changes to the 12th week of the Canterbury D1A Rugby Top 20.

Red River’s top team, LSU, moved to 3-0 in conference play with its 62-5 win over TCU. The Tigers took claim of a spot in the Top 20 last week for the first time all season, and now improve to No. 19 this week after its 57-point blowout of the Horned Frogs.

After beginning the season focusing on sevens, as well as competing in the USA Touch National Championships, Lindenwood has picked up a pair of quality nonconference wins on the road the past two weeks. First, the Lions took down D1AA Fall Semifinalist Lindenwood-Belleville, 64-15, before traveling to the Annapolis, Md. to take down the Naval Academy, 52-37. The Nov. 19 win over the Midshipmen leapfrogs Lindenwood ahead of Big Ten Champions Indiana and lands the D1A Semifinalist at No. 6.

No D1A Rugby conference fixtures remain on the 2016 calendar, making the 12th Top 20 poll of the 2016-17 season the last until teams get back onto the pitch in January. The spring semester will open the door for teams sitting on the fringe of the Top 20, like Arizona State, Cal Poly and Clemson to join the rankings, as well as other programs still awaiting its conference 15s season.
