Canterbury D1A Top 20: Week 10

D1A Rugby: Canterbury D1A Top 20: Week 10

BOULDER, Colo. – D1A Rugby’s top six ranked teams are unchanged this week, but that’s where the inactivity stops. After a weekend in which four matches pitted Top 20 teams against one another, there’s been quite the shakeup in Canterbury’s rankings.

Air Force is this week’s biggest winner. The Zoomies rose from No. 17 to No. 10 after their upset win over Army. The six-point loss dropped West Point three places to No. 11. However, Army wasn’t the only Rugby East team to slide this week. The Black Knights’ loss to a West Conference team appeared to hurt Wheeling Jesuit and Iona. The Cardinals ended their conference season with a win over West Virginia and Iona was idle, but each team took a step back in the rankings.

Elsewhere in Rugby East, Penn State earned a win over Kutztown, but the Golden Bears were able to cling to their lead in the conference standings to win the 2015 East title. While the Nittany Lions were able to move up to No. 7 this week on the strength of their best win of the fall, they remain one spot behind Kutztown.

In the Big Ten, Indiana and Ohio State advanced to the Nov. 14 BTU title game with wins over Wisconsin and Michigan, respectively. The Hoosiers hold strong to their fifth-place spot, while the Buckeyes jump to No. 12, and the Badgers, who tied Ohio State two weeks ago, fell to No. 15. Michigan has been swapping in and out of the Top 20 with LSU for the majority of the fall semester. This week, after their narrow loss to Ohio State, the Wolverines fall out of the rankings in favor of the Tigers, who beat quality D1AA side Arkansas.
