Canterbury D1A Top 20: Week 16

D1A Rugby: Canterbury D1A Top 20: Week 16

LAFAYETTE, Colo. – The top half of the Canterbury D1A Top 20 remains intact, but there is some movement in the backend of this week’s rankings.

Teams don’t often improve its ranking following a losing result, but that’s exactly what happened to LSU this week. The Tigers hosted No. 10 Arkansas State after losing to the Red Wolves by 40 points in the fall. This time around LSU had a seven-point second half leave before eventually succumbing to Arkansas State, 27-17. The hard fought defeat moves the reigning Red River Champions up one spot to No. 17.

Utah got back to its winning ways over the weekend. After beginning the year with one-sided losses to Cal and Saint Mary’s, the Utes hammered UCLA 49-8 in Los Angeles. The 41-point victory on the road improves Utah’s place in the Top 20 by three spots. UCLA’s second consecutive loss drops the Bruins to No. 18.

Although the top-ten witnessed no changes this week, there could be some shifting amongst the nation’s best next week. Two matches pitting teams ranked in the top half of Canterbury’s rankings are set for Saturday, Feb. 18. No. 2 Life will be hosting No. 10 Arkansas State to kickoff the Mid-South season, and No. 4 BYU will travel to California to take on Saint Mary’s.
