Canterbury D1A Top 20: Week 17

D1A Rugby: Canterbury D1A Top 20: Week 17

BOULDER, Colo. – After consecutive weeks of climbing the Canterbury D1A Top 20, Cal Poly was dealt a blow when it fell to San Diego State, 32-18, in a nonconference match. The 14-point win by the Aztecs moved the team up five spots to No. 12 this week.

Another team that had been trending up before taking a step back this week is Arizona. The Wildcats had propelled themselves to No. 11 prior to taking one on the chin against Lindenwood, 88-5. The inability to stay competitive with the Lions sees Arizona drop two spots to No. 13.

Oklahoma looked destined to climb into Canterbury’s rankings if it reached 3-0 in the Red River. The Sooners stayed perfect over the weekend and claimed their third conference win, but needed a last minute try to top Baylor. The close call to an unproven Bears side keeps Oklahoma just outside of the Top 20.

California Conference’s Santa Clara has made a couple of short-lived appearances into the Top 20 this year, and re-enter the rankings once again this week at No. 20. Colorado falls out of the Top 20 to make room for the Broncos.
