Canterbury D1A Top 20: Week 17

D1A Rugby: Canterbury D1A Top 20: Week 17

BOULDER, Colo. – Davenport’s 16-7 upset over Arkansas State sent minor shockwaves through the college rugby community over the weekend, and pushed the Panthers to No. 5 in this week’s Canterbury D1A Top 20. While Davenport only jumped two spots, it did manage to leapfrog two very good teams in Air Force and Kutztown.

Arizona and Oklahoma each fell two spots this week. The Wildcats, who climbed as high as No. 9 following their 50-point blowout of Santa Clara, slide again after losing to Arizona State. The Sooners’ fall from the ranks is not due to on-field issues, but rather the lingering uncertainty that hangs over the program following a mid-season coaching change.

Texas A&M, which entered the ranks last week, continues its forward progress. This week the Aggies check in at No. 17 after a convincing, 38-15, win against rival Texas.

After a string of losses, Santa Clara got back in the win column in a big way. The Broncos torched UC Santa Barbara, 60-8, and returned to the Canterbury rankings this week. Santa Clara’s place at No. 20 spills Iowa from the Top 20.
