D1A Rugby: Canterbury D1A Top 20: Week 22

BOULDER, Colo. – There is a new No. 1 in the Canterbury D1A Top 20. After a brutally difficult schedule saw Saint Mary’s fall to Cal once and BYU twice, while Life has disposed of everyone put in front of them, the Running Eagles take over the top spot in Canterbury’s rankings.

The other change within the top half of the rankings places Air Force at No. 9 and San Diego State at No. 10, while Cal Poly falls back two spots to No. 11. The Zoomies avenged a fall defeat to Colorado State by beating its in-state rival 51-28. The Aztecs claim its highest position in the Top 20 after narrowly besting Cal Poly in a huge California Conference showdown, 21-20.

LSU, one of the hottest teams this semester, had the weekend off and fell back a spot for it. The Tigers find themselves at No. 13 after another streaking side, Arizona, smashed Notre Dame, 47-10.

Army recently got a hat trick from winger Luke Heun, and beat Dartmouth by 51 points. West Point moves ahead of Big Ten Universities Championship runner-up Wisconsin to No. 14.

Oklahoma, a team that has been on the brink cracking the Top 20 for several weeks, finally breaks into the rankings at No. 20. The Sooners recently destroyed North Texas 62-7 in a nonconference meeting. Oklahoma’s emergence costs Iona its place in the Top 20. The Gaels of Rugby East had been a fixture in Canterbury’s weekly rankings since upsetting Army in October.
