Canterbury D1A Top 20: Week 23

D1A Rugby: Canterbury D1A Top 20: Week 23

BOULDER, Colo. – Now that we’ve entered the month of May, fewer teams have competitive matches remaining on their schedules, and the lack of movement in the Canterbury D1A Top 20 reflects the lack of games. This week, the top 15 spots in the ranking stay put, with minimal movement in the back end of Canterbury’s Top 20.

Only three D1A conference matches remain prior to April 18’s opening round of the 2015 D1A Playoffs. Still, those three matches involve six teams currently ranked in the Top 20.

In California, No. 7 Cal Poly hosts No. 15 San Diego State, and No. 2 Saint Mary’s wraps up its regular season at home versus No. 20 Santa Clara. Considering the quality wins Utah has picked up in the last month, Cal Poly would have to post a very impressive score on San Diego State to move ahead of the Utes, while an upset by the Aztecs would put the team in position to be considered for a final playoff spot. The same could be said for Santa Clara, but it’s difficult to imagine the Broncos knocking off the Gaels.

No. 4 Davenport will host the final Mid-South match of 2015 against No. 3 Lindenwood. The Lions won the first encounter, 20-16, but a win by the Panthers on April 11’s rematch could justify a swap in rankings between the two rivals.
