Canterbury D1A Top 20: Week 5

D1A Rugby: Canterbury D1A Top 20: Week 5

BOULDER, Colo. – The results from this past weekend in D1A Rugby have produced the biggest shakeup in the Canterbury D1A Top 20 so far this season. The top three remain the same, but Army was able to leapfrog Davenport thanks to its second win over a top-10 team in as many weeks. This week, West Point upended Penn State, 46-36.

Utah swapped places with Kutztown, even though both sides captured victories. With the Utes moving up to No. 6, their 53-point margin of victory over Wyoming must have opened more eyes than the Golden Bears 19-point win against St. Bonaventure.

Three teams out of the Big Ten Universities jumped in the polls. Indiana continues its slow climb inside the top-10 and now sits at No. 9. No. 13 Wisconsin and 17th-ranked Ohio State bettered itself by two places with wins over Minnesota and Purdue, respectively. Colorado was the only other side to improve its place in the Canterbury rankings by more than one spot. The Buffaloes’ upset win over in-state rival Colorado State has Colorado sitting at No. 16.

A 3-1 conference record and recent shellacking of West Virginia has Iona in the Top 20 for the first time in school history. After replacing Michigan in the rankings, the Gaels will need a big performance against No. 7 Kutztown to remain in the Top 20.
