The seventh week of CPD play definitely lived up to expectations set by the previous six. Most matches were easily won by the victor, while the two games that likely decided second place for the Pacific and Western Conferences went down to the final minute of play.
In Pacific play, St. Mary’s traveled up to Central Washington for a bout that would likely determine the second Pacific Division bid to the playoffs. The match went back and forth all day, but was not decided until the 77th minute when Tim Maupin slithered through the CWU defense to score the winning try and likely boost St. Mary’s to the playoffs.
In Western play, the Air Force Zoomies traveled to Utah with hopes of dropping the Utes from the number two position in the Western standings. After a hard-fought match Utah came away with a 34-27 victory and earned some much needed division points. The battle for the Western Division’s number two playoff seed is tied up between Utah and Arizona State, each team has earned 20 points thus far. Note: Utah beat ASU 29-20 in the second week of CPD play.
