LAFAYETTE, Colo. – Seventeenth-ranked Wheeling Jesuit University completed its most successful season in the Rugby East Conference with a 65-17 win over Delaware. The Cardinals raced out to an early advantage thanks to a pair of tries by D1A Rugby Player of the Week Peter Malcolm.
After beginning the season with five tries in Wheeling Jesuit’s first three matches, Malcolm was surprisingly held without a score for the previous three games leading up to the Nov. 5 fixture against the Blue Hens. Of course, the All-American hooker is more than capable of impacting a match without finding the try zone. Malcolm ferociously covers the field from touchline to touchline on defense, and gives the Cardinals consistent go-forward ball. Still, it was a pleasant sight for his Wheeling Jesuit teammates to see Malcolm cross the line for the first time since he dotted down during their upset victory over Kutztown.
Against Delaware, Malcolm scored his second try in the 17th-minute to put his side ahead, 15-0, and set the platform for an impressive 48-point win. The comprehensive victory over the Blue Hens gave Wheeling Jesuit a program-best 6-2 record to close its Rugby East season.
