LAFAYETTE, Colo. – The race for the 2017 D1A Rugby National Championship is down to four teams following four April 22 Quarterfinals.

The reigning D1A Rugby National Champions, Life University, will host No. 3 BYU in one of two April 29 Semifinals. The Running Eagles beat Mid-South rival Lindenwood, 37-20, for the third time this season in the Quarterfinals, while the Cougars proved to be too strong for the Big Ten Champions. BYU traveled to Bloomington, Ind. and beat the Hoosiers, 44-17.

The other Semifinal will be hosted by Saint Mary’s College after Canterbury’s No. 1-ranked Gaels easily dispatched No. 9 San Diego State, 72-5. In order for Saint Mary’s to reach a fifth consecutive D1A Rugby National Championship, the California Conference Champions will have to beat Arizona in the Wildcats’ first-ever appearance in a D1A Semifinal. Arizona’s season remains alive and well after going on the road and beating the Red River Conference Champions, Baylor, 48-5.

The teams capable of winning their respective April 29 Semifinals will continue on to the May 6 D1A Rugby National Championship at Saint Mary’s Stadium in Moraga, Calif.
