D1A Rugby: D1A Top 20 – Week 3

LAFAYETTE, Colo. – Two new teams enter the rankings and Air Force cracks the top 10 in this week’s D1A Rugby Top 20.

Wheeling Jesuit won its fourth consecutive game, the latest coming in the form of a 62-15 handling of St. Bonaventure. The 47-point win sends the Cardinals to No. 20 in the rankings, and gives the Rugby East Conference four teams in the Top 20.

Wisconsin opened its Big Ten season with its own blowout, a 79-8 victory over Purdue, which catapulted the Badgers to No. 18 at the expense of conference rival Ohio State. The Buckeyes begin their Big Ten season Saturday, Sept. 24, at home versus Purdue. Colorado State was the other team to fall from the rankings. Ohio State and the Rams are now ranked No. 21 and 22, respectively.

D1A Rugby’s two military academies, Air Force and Army, combined to improve by seven spots in the third week of the 2016-17 Top 20. Army shut out West Virginia, 64-0, to improve to 2-0 in Rugby East. Meanwhile, Air Force pulled off the biggest nonconference win of the week by smashing PAC Rugby’s University of Utah, 66-26.
