D1A Rugby: Let’s Get It Started

The 2013-14 addition of the D1A Championship kicks off with both the Big 10 Conferences and Rugby East playing league matches this fall. Rankings this season count for all the marbles, as only the top 12 will advance to the play-offs in April.

2013 National Champions Life University remains firmly in place at #1., Even after losing the likes of Colton Cariaga to graduation and Cam Dolan is set to walk in December, the Running Eagles are still the team to beat.

2013 bridesmaids St. Mary’s College is still reeling from an ever so close (and controversial) championship defeat. Losing stars like Mike Haley, Bubba Jones, Tim Maupin and Nick Wallace is enough to send most coaches into retirement. But the return of Kingsley McGowan paired with the ever-maturing Garrett Brewer only means this: The Gaels can still fly.

Arkansas St., Davenport and Kutztown round out the top five respectively, as new starts Lindenwood mark their debut into the competition at #7, confirming the Mid-South Conference as the strongest conference in college rugby. Period.

Air Force makes their return to D1A rugby lurking just outside the top ten at #11. Watch for the Big 10’s big three Wisconsin, Michigan, and Indiana to all make their moves as conference action continues to heat up.
