ST. CHARLES, Mo. – Lindenwood’s men’s rugby earned a 102-12 win against Dartmouth Oct. 31, and followed it with a 76-0 victory over Yale Nov. 2 in games played in the Boston, Mass. area.
In the game against the Big Green on Saturday, Deion Mikesell scored his first try in a Lindenwood jersey just two minutes into the contest and with the conversion, the Lions led 7-0. After a midfield lineout, Maanihera Kapa sent a short ball to Sione Fangaiuiha who then offloaded to Lunaile Tshuma for a score under the posts. Two minutes later, Tadhq Leader popped a blind ball to Nick Feakes who ran through untouched. Lindenwood built a 28-0 advantage when Sebastian Kalm scored the first of his five tries on the day. His second in a row 10 minutes later gave the Lions a 35-0 lead, but Dartmouth took a well-read intercept and ran 80 meters to get on the board before Kalm and Mikesell added tries in the final minutes of the first half for a 47-7 score at the break.
It was more of the same for Lindenwood in the second half. Mickey Bateman, Nathan Rankin, Austin Tijerina, Ty Turner, Kapa, and Feakes scored single tries and Kalm added two before the final whistle. The Big Green dig manage a 40-meter run for a score at the 63 minute mark, but that was the only offense the Lions gave up in the final 40 minutes.
Lindenwood was just as impressive on Monday against the Bulldogs as the squad posted a shutout. Playing shortened halves, Kalm still scored twice in the first 30 minutes. Michael Baska, Toma Ghattas, Travis Heer, and Malon Al-Jiboori all dotted down and Turner added a penalty kick for 43 points at the break. Dallas Frye, Tijerina, Mikesell, Lucas Bersin, and Morgan Findlay accounted for the tries in the second half.
The Lions first side started the 15s season 2-0, but will wait until January to return to the pitch for the next game action.
