D1A Rugby: Over 30 D1A players named to Academic Honor Roll

LAFAYETTE, Colo. –Earlier this week USA Rugby recognized more than 250 student-athletes as members of the 2015-16 Collegiate Academic Honor Roll and the list includes 33 players from D1A Rugby.

Criteria for USA Rugby’s Academic Honor Roll includes that a nominated player must be an ‘A-side’ member of the club, and have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.50. Two players, Louis Flores of LSU and Tom Murphy of Oklahoma, ended the academic school year with GPAs exceeding 3.90.

“Rugby is just a fraction of what the college experience is all about, making USA Rugby’s Academic Honor Roll the perfect way to recognize the achievements these young men and women have accomplished away from the pitch,” said D1A Commissioner Kevin Battle.

Impressively enough, three members of the Academic Honor Roll were also named Collegiate All-Americans, as well: Jordan Ghyzel (Kutztown), Wesley Hartmann (Kutztown) and John Sullivan (St. Bonaventure).

The 33 players more than doubles the number of D1A players who earned Academic Honor Roll Recognition a season ago.

“We are thrilled to see the number of student-athletes from D1A being named to the Academic Honor Roll grow,” added Battle. “The 33 players named this year will continue to be the leaders of D1A, and inspire their peers to strive for more both on and off the field.”
