MARIETTA, Ga. – Life University has named Dan Payne as Assistant Athletics Director effective immediately. Payne has been at Life U since 2009 as Director of Rugby. During that time, he has propelled the program into elite status, playing for eight national championships and winning four in the process. The championships were earned between two teams across three different competitions. Payne will remain in his role as Director of Rugby, in addition to his new responsibilities as Assistant Athletic Director.
“Dan has shown incredible acumen, not only as a coach, but also as an administrator during his tenure at Life U,” said Dr. Guy Riekeman, President of Life University. “The manner and process by which he has elevated the rugby program here is exactly the type of influence and expertise he can spread to our other sports.”
Payne is excited about the opportunity, saying, “There are a number of positive and exciting things happening here at Life U, particularly in our athletic department. Sports are a great way to prepare student-athletes for life after graduation. I’ve always enjoyed the use of sport to help instill the habits and traits that will lead to success in life. Hard work, dedication, persistence, honesty and commitment translate into success, regardless of the endeavor. I look forward to being able to assist all of our programs with that goal in mind.”
