LAFAYETTE, Colo. – Twenty-nine of the very best college rugby players in the country have been selected for a three-match tour in Australia with the AIG Men’s Collegiate All-Americans, and 16 of the student-athletes on the roster represent teams from D1A Rugby.

Included in the list of D1A players heading Down Under are Alex Maughan and Cody Melphy of D1A National Champions Life University, and four from College 7s National Championship winning Saint Mary’s College.

Several players that earned individual accolades during the D1A season have also been tabbed by head coach Gavin Hickie and his staff, like Mid-South Freshman of the Year Malon Al-Jiboori, capped Eagle Deion Mikesell, 1st-Team All-Conference centers Bryce Campbell and Cody Jerabek, as well as Rugby East’s Forward of the Year Wes Hartmann.

“The MCAA coaching staff is excited to work with these players,” said Hickie. “Along with our Eagle Eye Scout Network, we have identified this group as strong candidates for future Eagles honors. This tour will be a vital step in their development and preparation for that next step. We want to win every game we play, but individual and team performance is what the players will be assessed on.”

The team departs for Australia Sunday, July 31 and will train and play three fixtures during the first two weeks of August.
