D1A Rugby’s rankings have been released with most of the movement within the bottom half of the Top-20, along with a new team In The Bubble.
St. Bonaventure Bonnies had climbed the table to the #12 spot after a tough and tangible matchup against the, now ranked, #15 Notre Dame College side. The victory came at a 20 point difference which lead St. Bonaventure to climb one spot, while the Falcons had inversely dropped one spot. This will be trying week for NDC as they head into their bye, and St. Bonaventure will be looking to pick up momentum as they face American International College up next.
#18 Ohio State picked up one spot in the rankings as they handedly beat Big10 rival, Purdue, 42-19 in West Lafayette. The Buckeyes will have their hand full with (On The Bubble) #23 Indiana in one of the year’s bigger tournaments, the Battle of the Mitten. This will certainly be an exciting matchup, within an expanding tournament. Also showcased within Battle of the Mitten will be (UR) Michigan vs (UR) Michigan State, with the winner in need of conference momentum.
#19 Iona dropped just one spot after their big defeat, 11-51, to a very strong #9 Army side. Iona is hanging in the Top-20 rankings but a potential third consecutive defeat could render them outside of The Bubble. They will face off against (UR) Fordham which should be a good contest for Iona to regain some confidence moving forward, but you never know within the East Conference.
The new team On The Bubble is #25 ranked Texas A&M pulling forward halfway into the fall season. Texas A&M have not played a 15s match yet, but with their impressive play in their Red River conference 7s tournament, they have certainly caught the attention, and respect, of our voters. (UR) Notre Dame had popped their Bubble hopes and dropped out of consideration after securing a victory against D1-AA Georgia this past weekend.
Other movements: #13 Central Washington drops one spot, while #14 UCLA gains one, after the St. Bonaventure vs Notre Dame College shakeup. Both CWU & UCLA are not in full-swing yet, but will continue to be pin balls while the PAC, California and other conferences remain dormant.
