Minnesota held off a hungry Michigan State in Minneapolis, MN this past weekend, winning 17-14. Both Minnesota and Michigan State anticipated earning their first conference win of the 2016 season.
Illinois, Michigan State and Purdue showed glimpses of brilliance last fall and finished in the middle of the BTU pack. Those clubs will have to make additional positive strides in 2016 to contend with the top-third in the conference.
Schools are reaching outside of their conferences in order to play top tier talent, and this weekend might be the biggest example of that so far this season.
Coaches from across the Big Ten Universities Conference have compiled a list of the league’s best performers from the fall season to be part of the 2015 All-Conference team.
Some took over great teams and continued to be great. Others quickly collected wins with their new squad, and some got started in building their struggling teams into great rugby programs.
Wisconsin sets the pace in the BTU third place match, shutting out Michigan to win the match. Michigan State, Minnesota, and Purdue also got wins on the day.
Ohio State and Indiana will meet in the Big Ten Championship Saturday in Rockford, Ill. This match has the makings to be highly competitive, as these physical sides look to end the Big Ten season with a trophy in hand.
Indiana and Ohio State win their matches, and will advance to the BTU championship match on Nov. 14th. Michigan State notched their second win of the season, while Minnesota claimed their first victory of the season.
