Sacramento State and Santa Clara will begin their conference seasons Saturday against UC Santa Barbara and Saint Mary’s, respectively. The Gaels will host Santa Clara, while Sacramento State will visit the Gauchos.
Saint Mary’s dominance often overshadows perennial playoff teams Cal Poly and San Diego State. They return plenty of talent this year and both would have no qualms putting their front rows up against the country’s best.
Now that the Mid-South and West have both reached their midway points in the 2014 season, it is time to recognize players around the country who have bee playing at a high level, as well as hand out some midseason awards.
Aside from snowstorms forcing the two matches out of the West to be cancelled, March arrived with a number of compelling matches in D1A Rugby. There were no nail-biters to speak of, but both Saint Mary’s and Life earned wins agains teams expected to challenge each school for conference titles. Also, the once though of one-team race in the Allied Rugby Conference looks to be completely up for grabs.
Week 13 saw a couple of teams from the California Conference get back on track coming off of difficult losses. The Mid-South got underway when Arkansas State hosted Lindenwood, and there was a match that finished in a tie from the Allied Rugby Conference.
